My Opinion

Dear Mr. Editor,

Aloha to you,

There are certain things that are being done by some branches of the government that I have come to believe are biased and improper when scrutinized, whereas I have the honor of being a spokesperson for my people, through their trust that I will seek and fight for their benefit.

The very first thing that I make known is my love for us Hawaiians.  The Board of Health has just issued their rules, due to their belief that a contagious disease has spread among us.  At the same time, the knowledge of the doctors is in disagreement; some doctors say yes, and other doctors say no. The Board of Health’s announcement has been issued, forbidding us Hawaiians, prohibiting opae [shrimp], prohibiting oopu [gobey fish], prohibiting alamihi [black rock crab], prohibiting papai [crabs in general], prohibiting limu [edible seaweeds], with the prohibition going on almost to the point of saying, [“you are forbidden from going into the sea.”]

In my capacity as a spokesman for all of you, I will never neglect your welfare.

How about the Japanese?  With their flat-bottomed boats and their nets? The sea rises in one place and the sea flows in one place.  If the fishing of the Hawaiians, the residents and natives of the land, is wrong, if indeed his setting of nets is wrong, and his seeking sustenance in the sea is wrong, then how can the Japanese not be wrong? Do these interlopers have a holy spirit, while we, it turns out, are left adrift

My fellow citizens, the native sons of our birth land, this is a query, a question for all of us, am I wrong in my indignation for our well-being?  You shall be the ones to reply! I have not been apathetic. Your nights are restful, but for me, mine are nights of contemplation about our welfare.

Therefore, I am making it known before all of us, my opposition to the actions of the Board of Health, just as I said in my speeches to you all in the tumultuous days of the election.
